Ashley débute très tôt sa carrière dans des publicités et autres spots promotionnels pour jeunes. En 1997, Ashley participe à un épisode de la série 7 à la maison aux côtés de Beverley Mitchell, David Gallagher et Jessica Biel.
En 1998 elle devient la voix de Blueberry Scout dans 1001 pattes.
En 2000, miss Ashley joue dans Beverly Hills 90210 aux côtés de Jennie Garth et Tori Spelling. La carrière de la jeune fille décolle peu à peu puis après avoir donné la réplique à Amanda Bynes dans le Amanda Show puis en 2001, c’est au cinéma dans Donnie Darko avec Jake Gyllenhaal que Ashley poursuit sa longue percée.

Le cinéma a beau l’attirer, c’est tout de même la télé qui va avoir raison d’Ashley. En 2001 toujours elle joue dans un épisode de Once and again avec Billy Campbell et Sela Ward puis c’est dans Charmed face à Rose McGowan, Alyssa Milano et Holly Marie Combs qu’elle continue de s’illustrer tout comme en partenaire de Frankie Muniz dans Malcolm.

En 2005, Ashley devient l’héroïne de La vie de Zack et Cody et ce jusqu’en 2007.
En 2006, Ashley remporte le rôle de la peste Sharpay Evans dans le hit TV High School Musical aux côtés de son meilleur ami Zac Efron, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Corbin Bleu et Lucas Grabeel.

En 2007, Ashley revient dans High School Musical 2 toujours avec la même équipe

Le phénomène High School Musical arrive sur consoles. Après le premier épisode diffusé en France, les acteurs de la série (Zac Efron, Vanessa Anne Hudgens et Ashley Tisdale) vont être modélisés pour voir le jour sur PS2, DS et Wii.

Du nouveau pour tous les fans de HSM. On nous annonçait en février que Disney préparait un High School Musical 3 intitulé « Haunted High School Musical : the movie », dont le format ne serait non plus destiné à la télévision, mais carrément au cinéma. Le projet était donc arrêté jusqu’à ce qu’un changement de taille se produise : High School Musical 3 ne sera pas “hanté”. En effet, un porte-parole de Disney a confirmé à un média américain que cette version cinématographique, qui devait initialement se dérouler durant Halloween dans une sorte de maison hantée, avait été définitivement écartée. En revanche le projet reste destiné aux salles obscures.

L’info a été relayée par Zac Efron et Ashley Tisdale, qui ont confié aux MTV News qu’au lieu du scénario prévu, celui de HSM3 serait axé sur la transition vers l’âge adulte, durant la dernière année de lycée des Wildcats (dont l'âge approche désormais de la majorité, eh oui!). On peut supposer que ce nouveau script inclura de façon quasi certaine le bal de promo et la remise des diplômes. Reste fort à parier que les héros de East High emprunteront des routes séparées à la fin du film... à moins qu’ils ne quittent le lycée ensemble. Dans ce cas on peut espérer une suite en milieu universitaire dans les années à venir. Mais pas de plans sur la comète, l’avenir nous dira si ces prédictions s'avèrent exactes…ou pas...

Ce troisième opus devrait réunir le casting original composé par Zac Efron, Vanessa Anne Hudgens, Ashley Tisdale, Lucas Grabeel, Corbin Bleu et Monique Coleman. Certaines mauvaises langues misaient déjà sur le fait que Vanessa Anne Hudgens ne ferait pas parti du film à cause du scandale lié aux photos d’elle nue parues dans la presse. Disney a démenti en déclarant que, "Vanessa s’est excusée pour ce qui a probablement été une erreur de jugement passagère». Et d’ajouter qu’ils espéraient qu’elle saurait « tirer une leçon de cette expérience malheureuse».

Rappelons que la sortie en salle aux Etats-Unis est programmée pour début février 2009
